Tanzania Scrabble Players Association (TASPA)
was formed in June 2001. TASPA is an
amateur and non-profit association for
Scrabble players in Tanzania. It is
registered with the National Sports
Council of Tanzania. The main objectives
of TASPA are:

To provide a platform to
Scrabble players in Tanzania to play the
game as per international rules and
regulations.

To assist Tanzanian
Scrabble players to participate in
international Scrabble competitions.
-
To organize monthly
tournaments.
-
To promote Scrabble at
all levels of education institutes –
from primary schools to universities.
TASPA conducts its local tournaments
with the help of player’s subscriptions
but relies almost solely on sponsorships
for conducting or participating in
international tournaments.
Since its inception TASPA has been
involved in the following activities:

Organizing weekly local
tournaments in Dar-es-Salaam.

Have sent a Tanzanian
Scrabble player to participate in the
World Scrabble Championships held in Las
Vegas, U.S.A.(2001), Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia(2003), London UK
(2005),Mumbai, India(2007) and Johor
Bahru, Malaysia (2009)
-
Have sent a team of 15
players to represent Tanzania in the 4th
All Africa Scrabble Championships held
in Nairobi, Kenya in October 2002.

Successfully hosted the
first ever East and Central African
Scrabble championships in Dar-es-Salaam
in May 2003. Scrabble players from
Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and South Africa
participated.

Have recently started
promoting Scrabble in eight primary
schools and four colleges in Dar-es-Salaam.

Successfully hosted the
first ever INTER-PRIMARY SCHOOL SCRABBLE
COMPETITION in which 6 Primary schools
participated.

Hosted the 6th All Africa Scrabble
Championships in Dar-es-Salaam in
September/October 2004.This was a very
successful event and it has been
unanimously acclaimed by many
African Scrabble players as the best
organized Scrabble event in Africa.

Hosted the 4th ECASA Scrabble
tourney in 2008. This was another
very successful event.
